Richibucto, New Brunswick

Friday August 7, 2009

Spent most of the day in Richibucto, the closest town to the park. I needed to send a fax, use the Internet, and get some basic supplies. I didn't think it would take all day but it did. As soon as we arrived in town there was an unexpected power outage. Every store, including the library, closed down. Nothing to do but wait. Carol had a load of laundry ripening in the back seat and even that had to wait, as the laundromat was also down. Then it started to rain. In such situations the best thing to do is order oven baked pizza. Pulling over on the main street overlooking the harbor, we divided up the treasure. I hate to think of it as comfort food but it sure elevated our spirits.

Meanwhile, as we were finishing the pizza, the power came back on. Now we were ready to rock and shop. Once the laundry was safely spinning in suds we drove over to the library and used the wireless connection. Took care of all that stuff. The fax was not so easy. The copy/fax store was open but the guy capable of handling a thumb drive was gone for the day. I was advised to return on Monday when a more competent chap would be on hand. Small town, and so it goes. I didn't accomplish all that I'd hoped, but it was a start. Now that we knew the lay of the land, our next visit would go more smoothly.

Back in the park, we took our customary long walk with the Nicster and were treated to one big, beautiful, sunset.
